Stuart studied at both Eastbourne and Wimbledon Schools of Art, specialising in theatre design but always taking an interest in fine art.
After leaving Art School he worked as a Theatre Designer for twenty years in repertory companies including the Thorndike Theatre Leatherhead where he was head of design for fifteen years. Stuart also worked as a freelance designer in Belfast, Hong Kong and throughout the UK including the West End.
Having left the theatre in 1986 Stuart took up his first love of painting and drawing as well as working as an Events Designer. Projects included major productions in Versailles, The Ritz and Opera Comique in Paris and the Hoffburg Palace Vienna.
Since 1998 Stuart has concentrated more and more on Fine Art and has held many one-man and group exhibitions throughout England and two solo exhibitions in Italy.
In 1999 Stuart started The Studio Art House gallery in Leatherhead with his wife Sue specialising in Modern British and Contemporary Art. This venture was inspired by his knowledge and love of British Art since 1900 to the present day.
His work is held in many private and corporate collections in Great Britain and abroad.
Stuart is pleased to have been accepted as a full Member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art. Established in 1919 to foster good draughtsmanship, the SGFA has attracted work by such luminaries as Sir Frank Brangwyn (an early President), John Piper and Dame Laura Knight.
